Two days before the Great North Run

@everyone Six months of training, and I spent the Friday hauling sacks through the back gate. I ran 2:32. My best is 2:22. For a week afterwards I told everyone it was the logs. It was partly the logs. It was also hot, I'd stood in the start pen for over an hour, and I ran half a kilometre extra weaving round sixty-three thousand people. None of that made it into my story, because I hadn't decided any of it. If you've sat in a review and put a missed number down to the one thing you could point at, it's the same move. We blame what we controlled because it's the only part we can see. Everything else was on the road too. It just never got written down. So next time something comes in short, don't name the reason first. List everything that was actually going on, yours and not yours. Then decide what it was. Free guide: ei-unleashed.com/free-guide
